Csengersima, Calvinist church

"The name of the village on the right bank of the Szamos is associated with a person called Simon, and the settlement first appeared in the sources in 1327. The brick church consists of a semicircular sanctuary enlarged with a rectangular bay, connected to a single-aisled nave, and a wooden belfry over the west gate. The medieval church in the first period consisted of a semicircular arched apse and single nave, the latter found today comprising the rectangular space connecting the new nave and the apse. This earliest construction probably dates from the middle of the 13th century. Later, a large expansion took place towards the west. In the southern wall of the original smaller nave there is a nice sitting niche. The expansion can be dated to the 14th century. The exemplary restoration of the church was completed in 2000."
